Mojacar Receives the Conductors of the Province’s Music Bands in a Specialisation Course
An important course for conductors of Music Bands and Orchestras recently took place in Mojácar, organized by the Almería Provincial Council and the FEDERBAND Music Bands Federation, in collaboration with Mojácar Council.
The master instructor for this significant gathering was Miguel Sánchez Ruzafa, the principal conductor of the Granada Municipal Music Band and Principal Conductor of the Classical Orchestra of the same city. Sánchez Ruzafa boasts an extensive academic background, having obtained qualifications not only in Spain but also in countries renowned for their musical tradition and precision, such as Italy and Austria. Professionally, he has held notable positions, including professor of Harmony at the Granada Royal Superior Conservatory of Music, among others.
Throughout his career, Sánchez Ruzafa has conducted orchestras both nationally and internationally, including in countries like Italy, France, and the US.
The opening of the course was attended by Mojácar Mayor, Francisco García Cerdá, accompanied by the Culture Councillor, Noemi Linares. Also present was Miguel Ángel Miranda, the conductor of the Municipal Music Band.
During the opening ceremony, the Mayor expressed his commitment to supporting culture and reiterated the Corporation’s intention to position Mojácar as a cultural hub, not only in the Levante region of Almería but also in the province as a whole.
Participation in the Almería Federation of Bands course requires being a conductor of a music band in the province or being a member with a higher level and federated in one of them.
Orchestra conducting courses focus on consolidating and applying knowledge of the instrument the conductor works with—whether a music band, orchestra, or choir—through their gestures.
Conducting an orchestra represents the pinnacle of achievement in the world of music. It requires mastery of multiple instruments, harmony, counterpoint, composition, and demonstration of great skill. Historically, achieving this degree took nearly 30 years.
According to Sánchez Ruzafa, Spain has always produced skilled orchestra conductors, largely due to the character of the Spanish people. Composition and conducting are considered the two most complex levels within music. A deep understanding of all instruments is essential for mastering musical scores. Qualities such as a keen ear and unwavering dedication are crucial for success in this field.
